Working with a Producer makes Podcast Production Simpler

When you work with me, I even show you how.

Editing a podcast for yourself is relatively straightforward - you know and understand all the parts of your process and how they contribute to the creation of your content.

Its a different beast altogether when you invite a collaborator into your podcast development lifecycle. What do they do that's different? Will I have to do more work? What apps and tech do they use? And how much input will I have on the production?

My goal in our Podcast Production Relationship is to ensure that you get whatever it is you need to create your ideal episodes, for your ideal listener, as efficiently as possible to take the hard work off your plate. And while that's easy to say, it can feel like a black box, hiding production from you deliberately to prevent you from seeing a simpler solution that you could implement yourself.

I want to share your Podcast Production with you

When you work with me, I will share every aspect of the production process with you. I'll even teach you how to do parts of this yourself if you like! And to give you an idea of how I work with my clients, here's my standard workflow.

Our Podcast Production Workflow

Recording your Episode

With all of your topic planning, scripting and guest preparation in place, you’re ready to record your episode. This means getting your audio, and maybe video, tech ready to go, to record in the highest quality possible without affecting your recording experience.

You can accomplish this yourself with your preferred recording platform and manage it all on your own.

Alternatively, I can hold your hand through the whole recording process from tech troubleshooting to guest preparation. I’ll even provide a Riverside.FM studio for you to record while I sit in the background, ready to jump in if you need me.

Sharing your Files

So your episode is recorded, and you’re ready to send it on to me for editing!

If you’ve recorded the episode on your preferred platform, all you need to do is upload the recording files via the provided link and I will take care of the rest! I will commonly provide a Google Drive link for your upload, though I am happy for you to provide the recordings by any means you prefer.

If I have supervised your recording through my provided Riverside.FM Studio, then you don’t need to worry about this step! I can retrieve the audio and video recordings directly from the session, with no further actions required from you.

The common file formats I deal with are .mp4, .mp3, .wav & .mov, but I am able to transcode and manage almost any file type you wish to share.

Editing the Episode

This is where you let me do what I do best: Improve your audio quality, Trim the content we don’t need, Synchronise the tracks, Add an Intro, Outro, Music, etc.

For your Audio Episodes I will edit in Adobe Audition, and for video I will use Davinci Resolve Studio. In both, I will use a set of plugins that I’ve practiced with for years to hone the quality of your episode, including Izotope RX, Sonible and more.

If there’s an issue, a creative decision or something I’m unsure of regarding your recordings, I’ll always consult you by email or message.

When the episode edit is complete, I will export to .mp4 (1080p, 48kHz) and/or .mp3 (192kbps, 48kHz) to get the edit ready for the next step.

Review & Finalisation

When the edit is complete, I will send the episode to you for review. This will give you the opportunity to feed back any notes and changes you’d like me to make to the final version based on the initial cut.

The notes you provide are usually with timestamps so I know where in the episode you’d like me to make the change in the edit. These can be structured or free-form, as long as I have a good idea of what you’d like alterred.

Once you’ve provided the notes, I will make the changes required. Then, when we have finalised the episode edit, it’s time to get the final parts of the episode ready.

Transcription, Shownotes & More

Once the episode is finalised, its time to create the content around the podcast that gives it the professional, polished look that listeners love to see.

First, I will generate a transcription of the episode from which I will ideate a first draft of the Title, Description, Thumbnail & Art design (usually with generative AI) and any other components required for the episode distribution. All of these drafts are finalised by me to give it the human touch, ensure it represents your brand voice and is optimised for SEO.

All visual assets will align to a pre-approved design template to keep your podcast theme consistent in your episodes.

All of these assets (including transcription) will be uploaded and shared with you via Google Drive, even if I manage the final step for you.

Scheduling & Distribution

With the edit complete & the assets finalised, we’re ready to schedule distribute your podcast episode. This is sometimes a step that my clients prefer to do themselves, which I am happy to support in whatever way I can.

I do offer as part of my services the option for me to manage your RSS Feed upload and YouTube upload, incorporating all of the assets we’ve created in the previous step.

With access to high-speed Internet and all of the original material, my supervision over this step allows me to troubleshoot any issues that might arise in the process of scheduling the episode and even after its released.

I can work with your current Podcast Host, or I can manage your RSS Feed for you through my Captivate.FM service.

And that’s an episode done!

Every one of my clients has a variation on this process for the bespoke service I offer, but one thing is always the same: I make your podcast production simple, collaborative and professional.

If, during our time together, you wish to learn more about any aspect of this process, I am always happy to oblige and teach you. The flourishing of podcasters is my priority, and I will help in any way I can.
